I was curious about if anyone else had specific poems that they were attached to because they had some relevance to their kintypes. I'm fond of poetry for the most part, so I figured I'd make a topic to see others' contributions. I have two favorites that I primarily connect to due to being a cat, these being The Cat and the Moon by W. B. Yeats and Fog by Carl Sandburg. We may change our name on every nonhuman-related forum we're on, but we keep the similarity of having snippets of these poems somewhere on our profiles on most of them... Not much use changing our name then, you could say, but oh well. I've included them in spoilers below for ease of reading:
{The Cat and the Moon}
{Fog}

Yes yes yes! We have several. We're also huge poetry nerds, as our partner system is already well aware. Here's two of our favorites that relate to our species-

Oh, what a lovely topic! I've cited this as one of my favorite poems for a while now. As much as it resonated with me before, it made so much more sense to me once I remembered one of my particular lives as Saïx. I had...I'm going to say some very rough losses as a mother-to-be and mate. I first discovered it alongside this artwork, and I feel it's a particularly significant inclusion for me.
I tend to collect things on this on my fictotype Tumblr, so I just might have to share more if I stumble across it.

...is it cheating to say my own writing, because that's one of the big ways I've been wrapping my head around All This

There's this little snippet from a poet on tumblr that very deeply resonates with me, because it basically describes the dream that led to my fictotype awakening: It's just such a small bit and I desperately wish there was more TwT

Not a poem, but a song.
Lyrics excerpt
Now what am I supposed to be
For sure it can't be me
In orderly array

How much am I allowed to derail the thread by not including a poem but instead something a poet had written? It takes me back to when I wasn't csure about my identity and the only that thing really helped was to just let it be and wait it out to see if my feelings would change. No amount of harsh questioning helped the same way that just doing nothing did.

#s://i~imgur~com/937VUT4~png This isn't just for me, but our system as a whole really connects with the poem Two-Headed Calf by Laura Gilpin and I get emotional every time I read it Tomorrow when the farm boys find this freak of nature, they will wrap his body in newspaper and carry him to the museum.
But tonight he is alive and in the north field with his mother. It is a perfect summer evening: the moon rising over the orchard, the wind in the grass. And as he stares into the sky, there are twice as many stars as usual.

Cries in frenchI do!! I do!! I have so many!! But they are all in french and traducing a poem makes it. Lose a lot I think. Au Hasard Des OiseauxThis one i think is because of how I found I was avian. Before I started looking into animal experiences, I saw myself as a dragon, and although I liked bird, I didn't like them that much. But now I have a feeling of comfort with any bird because I tie them to that self discovery that helped a lot in feeling more like myself. Moreover, it pictures my need for something more... simple compared to human life pretty well. Le Faisan DoréLa PerdrixThese two are linked to my galliform kithtype. They are birds that feel familiar in how they behave and look, and things with them, even if i am not one, tends to make me feel shifty as well. They are just pretty poems, not really a lot of thought into why I like it, I just do. The fables of Jean de la Fontaine are a lot that resonate with me because of a sense of nostalgia, too. It always comforted me because the characters talking were animals, as symbols for various things. Birds are included, and there's quite a few of him that I like. But sadly I don't read a lot of poetry anymore. I really should! I love poetry. But for some reason I haven't found the time or energy ahah. Maybe that'll get me to read some english poetry (I take suggestions. )

I'm not a huge poetry reader even though I write my own lol, so I don't really hold on to too many, but I do have some:
{Florence Welch} "I'm sorry you couldn't find me. I have been in the woods. I put myself there because I couldn't be good. I have been running with foxes and running with crows and I have found myself a home where no one goes." -Florence Welch, Useless Magic; Lyrics & Poetry This one moreso pertains to my views of my own passing, when that happens
{Mary Elizabeth Frye} "Do not stand By my grave, and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep- I am the thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints in snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle, autumn rain. As you awake with morning's hush, I am the swift, up-flinging rush Of quiet birds in circling flight, I am the day transcending night. Do not stand By my grave, and cry- I am not there, I did not die." -Mary Elizabeth Frye, The Gypsy And uh.... Some music lyrics, for good measure lol
{Excerpt from "Furr" by Blitzen Trapper } "You can wear your fur Like a river on fire But you better be sure If you're making God a liar I'm a rattlesnake, babe I'm like fuel on a fire So if you're gonna get made Don't be afraid of what you've learned" {Second "Furr" Excerpt} "And now my fur as turned to skin And I've been quickly ushered in To a world that, I confess, I do not know But I still dream of running careless through the snow"
