I'm trying to get into more electroswing and chiptunes. I've been told to check out a band called Slime Girls? Otherwise I need to listen to more The Real Tuesday Weld, Caravan Palace, and Steam-powered Giraffe.
Ooh, I absolutely love Caravan Palace. If you're looking for more electroswing, I recommend Tape Five, Caro Emerald, and Parov Stelar.
A couple people mentioned Tally Hall and I hadn't really listened to them before but they came up on a Spotify playlist based on AJJ and I'm digging them
tally hall is nice c: i recommend the related Miracle Musical (usually rendered in katakana as ミラクルミュージカル). variations on a cloud is a good one
Lord Huron is putting out new stuff and I’m eating that up. It’s kind of a return to their wistful Americana folk sounds... the last album, Vide Noir, had some more crunchy rock sounds and ethereal departures from their norm. I didn’t like the album as much at first, but now I probably listen to it the most. ANYWAY, here’s a nice one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5b0Pt-k1hGo
Fleet Foxes have some new stuff too, but it’s so sleepy-sounding I haven’t listened as much.
I’m craving new music. I’ll have to browse this thread when I have some more time.

Oh, I've been obsessed with Lord Huron for years at this point! Of course Strange Trails is my favorite album, I think it's everyone's fave, but I really enjoy Vide Noir too. And all their new stuff, of course. If everything pans out, I'll see them live next year, which will be the third LH concert I've gone to :D
Unfortunately I can't think of much other music in that genre to recommend. Only a few individual songs, like Little Black Submarines by The Black Keys and Ballrooms of Mars by T.Rex. Neither are quite the same, but they have a rock sound that's somewhat similar to Vide Noir.
Yeah, Strange Trails is definitely their best. I think some of the themes of Vide Noir just came in the right time of my life. And since it was the new album when I saw them live (at the seriously best outdoor venue possible!! GAH!! <3), I had to make sure to listen to that album and know it a little better first, which really paid off.
I would absolutely see them again in a heartbeat, though. I’ve seen Fleet Foxes at the same venue, but Lord Huron was in the middle of summer and I was at a happier time of my life and it all just felt so perfect! Ben Schneider told a funny story about his car getting stolen and how when they found it and gave it back to him, he found a crack rock in it.
I do love me some Black Keys. Haven’t listened to T Rex as much. Thank you for the suggestions!! In the more rock genre, I’ve really been enjoying Black Pistol Fire lately, and I’m surprised they’re not more popular. “Lost Cause” is a good song to start with: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWgUAwqgf3k&list=PLpDOhu2oo74Vh87aO_6ApS6ObCbCbQTLg
This thread reminded me I'd been meaning to listen to Vide Noir for ages, and what an absolute immaculate vibe. I can't believe how much I resonate with this, it feels very...I dunno, the closest I can think of to a name for the aesthetic is Roswellcore? Like, the combination of the neon 50s aesthetic from the music videos plus the uncanny Rural Weirdness aura. It's delicious.

Podcast-wise at least:
We're nearing the end (only 3 episodes to go) of The Magus Archives. Been enjoying it immensely and kind of sad its near its end. Also tragedy and horror mean endings are always tearjerkers.
Slowly listening to Welcome To Night Vale. We're only on episode 46 so got a while to go before being caught up.
(Soon on our listening queue will be Old Gods of Appalachia, another horror-themed podcast.)

I listen to and love all three of these, if you ever need to yell about them or want recommendations for more shows in that vein hmu. I've become...somewhat notorious as a podcast dealer in certain circles.

Right?? God, I listen to this album all the time as I drive around the west (I travel a lot both for work and just otherwise; can’t sit still). It’s really just got the perfect wilderness/city/ethereal vibe. I’ve already got several art pieces done with inspiration from some of the lyrics, and I’m always envisioning more.
I also recorded myself singing “Secret of Life” for my brother-in-law’s birthday last year. I’ve never done karaoke IRL and am terribly shy about singing, but it was a birthday surprise my sister was planning for him, so I figured my inclusion would be an extra bonus surprise. Love that song.
Anyway, the rest of the new album, Long Lost, has dropped. I listened yesterday and need to listen again. There’s definitely some obvious bangers right off the bat, but I’m sure more will grow on me with time. It’s SUPER melancholy, though. A lot of their music has this wistful, yearning, lost-love theme, but man, it’s extremely apparent in this album.
Conversely, the Fleet Foxes’ new album, Shore, is notably more relaxed with a soft, swaying, beachy sound - stark contrast to the tension of their last one, Cracked Up.
