One of my favorite things about forums is that we get to mess around with our signatures. I saw a few people chatting in Otherconnect about the idea of creating a sort of otherkin/alterhuman/etc. code like the old ones that used to be used occasionally. For those not familiar with what codes are, they are short strings of letters and symbols which stand for different things. A notable one was the Geek Code. In terms of relevant ones, I know of the Dragon Code and the Faerie Code offhand. They're a bit complicated when you see them at first, but I think it's sort of fun! Have you ever used these before? I've only used the Conlanger Code in the past, but today I went in and did the Faerie Code for my own signature here.

I feel like I've run across an otherkin or therian code before but can't dig up the source. Regardless, I'd be i nterested in using or developing a new one!

For any interested here a few the old codes once used in the communities: 1st version of the Werecode: Blackfang. “Proposal: WereCode v.05,” alt.horror.werewolves, 26 September 1996, groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/alt.horror.werewolves/1cYEm0yfZZM . 2nd version of the Werecode: SabreLion. "Were Geek Code Version .09c," WereNet, 1998, web.archive.org/web/20010213200804/http://www.were.net/werecode.shtmDraconity Code : Daniel hamel, “Dragon Code,” alt.fan.dragons, July 25th 1994, groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.fan.dragons/dqaQqYtABGc . Multiple Code: www.astraeasweb.net/plural/code/- Cavern-Risen

Codes are a little before my time on the net but I think they're really fun. Here's the gryphon code ( v1) to add to the list. I had no idea there was a werecode, though. Mine would be: WX~FT A++>+++ H- T-- Wr>++ F++++ N+ E+++ C Nk+ RLSs/RLA a c+ g+ r+ e+++>++++ w+ iwf+++ p sf!

If I'm reading using the werecode correctly, mine would be:
WCM ms fw 6/1 A I- H++ T-- Wr F++++ N+++ E+++ C Nk+ RLSs a c+ g+ r+ e+++>++++ w h# I++ P- s#
That was fin to go through!
Still a lot of the werecode clearly reflects it's source and time (e.g. all the IRC stuff). I'd love to make an alterhuman code, especially one reflecting other identities such as heartedness and paratypes

Oh! I've actually tried working on a plurality and general nonhuman code mashup! It's a bit.... very complicated so I never released it anywhere though. The gist of it was to have it so you could either yourself or a few system members, but if you really really wanted to you could do it for your whole system but that renders it useless for a signature if it gets too long.

#s://i~imgur~com/JAjgOue~png I think they're neat! They're not always practical, but I think it's cool that they exist. I could see them coming in handy for places where you have more limited signature space

I'm a little confused on what these codes are used for? Why is it more practicle to put DC2.D than 'Dragon' ?

Swiftpaw: If I had to guess it may be because in old forums there were more signature limits or sometimes only the ability for a quick sign off. Being able to condense all of that into a quick and short phrase might have been easier than listing off say "cat, fictionkin, it/its, rp allowed, etc". With the dragon code it also seems to be more intended to allow people to give off their physical information much more easily, which would make sense since not everyone had access to digital art or a scanner. When it comes to geek codes they were also originally more used by people who had a programming or technological background, so shorter strings could make more sense to those groups. It might have also been to show community, and I can see with otherkin it might have been a way to give information without as much worry from trolls.

I can especially see it as useful if we can get it well known by otherkin but not by most people so its like a subtle indicator, like I think there was like hankercheif codes for lgbt people

Good to meet you It only mentions at the top that each section has its own little beginning in the code, so the way I would encode that would be: FC T? Ew Gn Cg H+ W- (Ap optional) A-- For/f Ftmf M?

im currently thinking of developing a code for people identifying as robots/computers/cyborgs/etc.! it's a fun project since a lot of us identify as such in wildly different ways, would anyone be interested in seeing what we have so far?

I’m not a robot or computer or anything but I think this sounds like an awesome and also kinda cute idea
