Aside from maybe the obvious shapeshifting ability, what’s a super power or magical ability you wish you could have?
I would want the ability to create illusions! A bit similar to how a tanuki or kitsune would in Japanese folklore. Only I would never purposefully hurt or upset anyone.
Feeling down? Well now there’s a million rainbows in the sky, unicorns prancing all over the place and now you’ve got all your favorite sweets and foods!
Maybe the power I have would be able to create real things even? But I feel like at that point I’d be a god if I could just create whatever I want when I want it :v

Shapeshifting was always my answer as a kid for what are now obvious reasons. But if that is off the table:
-Healing. I like the idea of being able to magically help others, even if it was limited.
-Flying. If I can't shapeshift into a bird I still want to try flying.

If we're allowed to pick more than one...
I'd pick my main abilities from my dreams, the ones I always have which are
- flight
- ability to phase through solid objects like walls
- healing (I heal with my hands and a gold light)
- underwater breathing
If I have to pick only one.. it's very difficult but I think I'd go with being able to move through solid objects. I can stop from being hurt by making bullets, cars, weapons go through me and not hit me and I can hide under the floors and in walls. It is my main safety ability in my dreams, being able to quickly get away from somewhere or spy without being seen. (In my dreams when I go into the floor or in a wall, the entire part of where I am in becomes see-through for me so I can see everything going on above me or on the other side of the wall without being seen myself.)

I love this question cause i always have 2 answers for it.

And it just seems that it would be hella convenient to just poof out of an awkward situation, even if you teleported just a couple meters away.

Idk, it seems like a fun idea for me. You can use it for anything really, even harmless fun like setting a probability of a large group of cats suddenly appearing in your street or whatever (I tried explaining this to my significant other, and their reaction was "so... like an overpowered Domino? [super hero from the Marvel Comics]" yes but no 😅 its a cute way of thinking about it)

Since shapeshifting, my immediate answer, is not an option, I'll give one that I've thought about a lot: time travel. For one, what a well of convenience! I have ADHD, deadlines are not my strong suit and I have a terrible memory. If I could jump around through time I'd have all of it I need to get things done before they're overdue. 10 page paper I haven't started yet due in two hours? No need to rush. Just take a quick vacation to yesterday and get it done while my contemporary self is busy procrastinating. Can't remember something that happened a year ago and it's necessary for some reason? Obviously, just jump to the date and remind myself.
But the main reason is curiosity. One of my special interests is the change of technology and culture over time. Imagine if I could see it for myself! Spend some time in 1970 and see how different it is. Or better yet, jump forward in time, see how different the world is 200 years from now. What would the music be like, what would the art and literature be like? How will language change in the next 1000 years? Jump forward until I get to a point where we've met aliens and I can see what they look like. And even beside my special interest: could you imagine what an asset I'd be to paleontologists? And I'd be happy to help, cause I want to know what color that one dinosaur was just as badly as they do.
The one thing I wouldn't do is try to stop any catastrophes. We've all seen Back to the Future 2. I wouldn't want to drastically change future events. And having read A Sound of Thunder, I'm not stepping on any butterflies either.

I'm assuming this doesn't mean any superpowers your true self already has, for me that'd be prehensile hair and the percs that come with android/robotic body.
Personally I'd love the ability to create temporary clones of myself, so I can get more done

Other than that, I would either want to have better senses, some kind of element control (water or wind would be cool), or something similar to what the fictotype I've been questioning has.

I'm thinking necromancy. I bring the dead back to life but once ressurected they have a mental link with me. Sort of a communicating with animals and healing power combined, but gother.

Resistance to all temperature extremes. No matter where I go, I never feel colder than 60F or hotter than 90F. I could go anywhere, and live in places no one could bother me. Add flight to this and I'm set for a good long time.

well, since shapeshifting is off the able, i'd pick flight. flying is one of those things i really miss and feel a lot of longing for. i'd also like to have wings too but only if i could show or hide them at will since it could be kind of tough having them around all the time. there's a lot of other abilities and powers i wish i had, but flight is the biggest one.

i never actually wanted shapeshifting! my top pic has always 8een glamour- 8asically, the a8ility to manipulate peoples perception of myself without actually changing anything a8out my appearance. i always thought it would have more uses and possi8ly less downsides than str8 up shapeshifting.
my second pick isnt going to surprise anyone who has read homestuck 8ut you know what? mind control is pretty sick. more accur8ely the kind of mind control id like is called puppeteering, meaning the person 8eing controlled is fully conscious. YES i know it's a "pure evil" type superpower, 8ut im a proud queer villain and i simply think it would 8e cool.

I think the ability to control plants would be cool. I would basically be able to grow free food whenever, plus I could put flowers everywhere. Not for any practical reason, I just think flowers are nice.
If I wanted revenge on someone, I could just put poison ivy in their house. Or spontaneously generate a large tree in their house. I feel like there’s a lot of destructive potential when you can just spontaneously grow massive trees wherever you want.
Also, none of my house plants would die ever again. A lot of my plants have died, except for this one aloe vera that has grown so tall that I had to hold it up with a stick and some string so that it wouldn’t break itself under its own weight. Apparently, aloe vera is the only plant that can tolerate my horrible plant management skills.
