Which unexpected things do you find yourself drawn to because of your kintype?
For me it's the Middle Ages, which I really love to read about, and to a lesser degree everything related to WWI.
What about you?

Certain aesthetics. (I.e., colors, styles, music.) The years 70s to late 90s, I believe?

I don't know if any of it is unexpected considering I can trace the source but they seem strange from an outside perspective I imagine. Much of it tends to be what music I get kinfeels from.
One of those is Congolese music, especially the genre Soukous/rumba, as well as the more traditional stuff like water drums. I love it, makes me picture the rainforests where bonobos live because of the geographical relevance obviously.
As a bonus there's only one bonobo sanctuary and I get strangely homesick for it though I've never been. Sensory stimuli I'd be likely to encounter there takes me back. The food, fashions and languages etc of the region appeal to me a lot. It's like one of those neomata things where I have pseudo memories of living in that sanctuary and hearing the radio and people talking and so on. It doesn't surprise me though. It's like how films set in particular places have relevant soundtracks as the backdrop.

Something that can seem unexpected for an outsider or something that is only marginally related to a kintype but still important to you, but now I realize I worded it poorly in the first post. 😅 I listened to some Congolese water drums and they're really good. If you want, any particular artist of Soukous/Rumba that you'd recommend? Now that you mention it, noemata could be an important factor to consider in this. Because memories, and pseudo memories too, tend to mic all kinds of associations and stimuli, right? So that could be a reason all of this miscellaneous things end up all leading back to 'kin identity. Don't know if I'm saying it right, but you made me see it from another angle, so thanks for that!

Hmm there are a few more notable names I know of, Papa Wemba, Tshala Muana, Kofi Olimide, Nathalie Makoma and there are a bunch of others though those 4 seem to have the most international reach. I tend to keep playlists running without checking the titles so I might be missing some gems. Papa Wemba actually wrote a song for the bonobo sanctuary once! I find I prefer that music with more classical elements, when it's mostly pop or hip hoppy it starts to sound a bit cheaply produced because of budget constraints so I don't like that as much. Of course, full on traditional styles of music (like pre soukous which is newish) are pretty much a one way ticket to kinfeels town. Sometimes music from the surrounding countries does it because it sounds similar. With congolese rumba it depends heavily on the song and artist. I'm glad you get where I'm coming from, I told this to a non therian once and they kinda got the wrong end of the stick and it got really awkward.

It's a good thing Youtube exists too, with all its flaws at least it gives us access to music from all over the world. I hear you, there's something different about traditionally produced music, maybe a sense of... authenticity, I would say? And in your case, I try to understand, maybe as music is closer to its origins it is closer to nature (in the sense of the physical space that originated those sounds, and all the plants and animals in it) as well, so the less "produced" and refined a piece of music is, it could be further from what's human and closer to what is natural? I don't know, I'm mostly rambling right now, but it's an interesting topic.

Yeah something like that! It isn't as divorced from the setting.
I do have kinfeels music that falls under general pop but that's because of lyrical content.

fish! I never got into fishing and when I was younger thought it was lame but now I'm slowly becoming obsessed with fishing games, the types of fish you can catch and eat, and the more gruesome how to prepare them! I've really gotten into educational humane fishermen who explain everything about the fish they have with them and it's so fascinating the types of techniques, how diverse fish are, and importantly how kind fishermen can be to their catch!

That's really awesome! I'm kinda skittish with the part of actually preparing the fish, but I find it great that other people enjoy it. If you don't mind the curiosity and only if you want to answer of course, what else have you learnt from fishermen? I bet they have fascinating stories to tell.

Only if you want to answer of course, what's that interests you most about the 70s to 90s? The music, the fashion, the history...? Personally from that period I only know about music, but history not so much.

this is a Real weird one, but... harsh noise / ambient drone music. only look it up if youre ok with Very loud sounds + frequencies !! its not a genre many really like (which i super understand) but its very meaningful and special to me it brings out not only abstraction-related feelings for me, since it is music in a very base, unusual sense.. its pure sound and texture, very in your face and unapologetic about what it is. but it Also makes me feel incredibly monster-like, just huge and lurking and ominous. its freeing, cathartic, and genuinely beautiful to me, hahaha.

I see, that's definitely interesting! I wouldn't have associated drone music/harsh noise with feeling monster-like, but it makes sense now that you explain it. Music seems to be specially productive when making associations, right? It's like all sorts of concepts, smells and feelings related to identity can come from music, and lead back to it in turn. Thank you so much for your answer!

I've noticed certain clothing patterns (e.g. pants of single, neutral color; black socks) can resemble goat legs or hooves to my brain. So sometimes I'll be dressing/undressing and end up with Surprise Euphoria as I look down at myself. It helps that instead of bending down to take off socks, I tend to use friction to pull them off against a rug/carpet, resulting in a "hoof scraping against ground" motion.

As an angelkin have been drawn to lovecraftian imagery, and body horror. Angels have a form that is incomprehensible to the human eye, so body horror is comforting. The Mandala Catalogue has such a comforting element to it, despite it's violence, due to the impossible body proportions. Demon characters also take a liking to. Almost all the pictures in camera role is of a demon character owned by uranohead000 on Twitter and Instagram, their name is Devil.
