idk how to explain this, but I'll try my best. Sometimes phantom limbs like my wings, tail and ears don't come naturally to me, so I have to sort of "force" my mind to feel those limbs. I also have involuntary shifts, but it seems like my mind has trouble picturing those specific limbs over my physical body like it does when I have involuntary phantom shifts. I'm afraid this means that I'm faking my phantom limbs, although dragon body parts feel more natural to me than other animals'. Is this a common experience? Does somebody else do this?
Someone else has already confirmed that any shift can be voluntary, so I won't go around reiterating. I can sometimes voluntarily phantom shift--more specifically, my ears, tail(s), and teeth. My ears happen to be the most effortless and most natural for me, but for other parts, I must focus on more. I'm a polykin, so if I voluntarily invoke a shift, it's most often what kintype I feel most at that moment. As of recently, I have been my kitsuneself, so all or most shifts will be of that.
I do this all the time! Especially when I'm stressed or overwhelmed, something about it is always so comforting to me. My phantom shifts are rarely involuntary, I turn them on and off like a switch :]
